Seven Good Things Tag

Rachel from North London has tagged me so I must do the necessary

Seven good things

1. Low carb diets that show results in less than three weeks Namely the idiot proof diet by India Knight and Neris Thomas( ps If you get a spike in sales I want commission)
2.Friends who help you out in your hour of need and don't judge you.
3. Lidl because without Lidl ordinary people would never come home with cheap useful quality stuff( and Aldi and Netto to a degree) and yes I want commission if Lidl starts selling out because I need stuff too.
4. Concrete raft foundations for making earthquakes easier to cope with.
5. Omega 3 fish oil in high concentration on prescription
6. Celeriac for being the most versatile vegetable on the bloody planet and being low in carbs to boot
7. The ability to glean wild food from the planet without it costing you a penny.

Earthquake!

An earthquake has hit much of England this morning just before 100 GMT as the BBC relates here.

The earthquake epicentre was in Lincolnshire by Market Rasen. It measured 5.3 on the Richter scale.

The tremor was felt as far away as London.

I actually am in South Yorkshire at present and my parents felt the earthquake whereas I simply slept through it as I am oft to do having slept through an earthquake that was 8.3 on the Richter scale when I was in India in 1983 in Amritsar when the epicentre was in Afghanistan.

There was actually an aftershock at 1.8 on the Richter scale at 4 am which is when the clock fell off the stand and that woke me up then, but not before but I did wonder why it had fallen off and couldn't at that time reason it. My photos had also fallen down and it was only when I heard the news that I thought aha! that's the reason why.

Apologies to my regular readers, normal service will resume soon and I will do the tag that Rachel has tagged me with very soon.

Northern Rock or how Gordon Brown became the first Labour politician to nationalise something for decades

Northern Rock have been nationalised and it hurts, I have my mortgage with them so I'm safe. The investors who bought the shares well they have nothing. Trading was suspended this morning. The new chief financial officer, Ms Godbehere, well it'll take more than God being there to turn that financial white elephant into a cash cow.

Tony Blair must be laughing his insides out, that he left before the going got rotten but then we always knew he would have left a poisoned chalice for Gordon.

Someone remarked to me that Gordon was a parsimonious prat, Nice alliteration and great timing.

Now will someone get rid of this turbulent government and give us peace and prosperity?

Porridgemade as in teasmade

The people in the know, Quaker Oats have come up with a porridgemade that will have a nice hot bowl of porridge by your bed when you wake up in the morning.

It was in this mornings Yorkshire post

One does wonder though will you need a separate teasmade for the tea though? why not have a combined one?

Goring by Sea

I went off to the south coast today to have a look at the timber.

There were still quite a few piles of timber on Goring beach and Goring is a lovely quaint town that harks back to the 30s Lots of Arts and crafts mock tudor houses and many art deco blocks of flats and shopping arcades.

In fact it had more art deco than Napier commonly heralded as the Art Deco capital of the Southern hemisphere in that a vast majority of the housing stock was from the 30s.

St Valentine's day

Happy Choc fest, Champagne fest etc, to all those happy couples and singles.

Here is the true story behind St Valentine courtesy of the Christian Broadcasting Network.
He was a Roman Priest at a time when there was an emperor called Claudius who persecuted the church at that particular time,He also had an edict that prohibited the marriage of young people. This was based on the hypothesis that unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers because married soldiers might be afraid of what might happen to them or their wives or families if they died."

"I think we must bear in mind that it was a very permissive society in which Valentine lived, "Polygamy would have been much more popular than just one woman and one man living together. And yet some of them seemed to be attracted to Christian faith. But obviously the church thought that marriage was very sacred between one man and one woman for their life and that it was to be encouraged. And so it immediately presented the problem to the Christian church of what to do about this."

"The idea of encouraging them to marry within the Christian church was what Valentine was about. And he secretly married them because of the edict."

Valentine was eventually caught, imprisoned and tortured for performing marriage ceremonies against command of Emperor Claudius the second. There are legends surrounding Valentine's actions while in prison.

"One of the men who was to judge him in line with the Roman law at the time was a man called Asterius, who's daughter was blind. He was supposed to have prayed with and healed the young girl with such astonishing effect that Asterius himself became Christian as a result."

In the year 269 AD, Valentine was sentenced to a three part execution of a beating, stoning, and finally decapitation all because of his stand for Christian marriage.

Inpatient stays more miserable than the disease

I came across this yesterday and it struck a chord, Having spent 3 weeks in a North London mental hospital myself and having witnessed the intimidation of the patients by the staff, which is why incidentally that the elderly are getting violent with them see here because the elderly come from a different age and will stand up to bullies a lot better than some of the younger generation.

I saw how everyone in my ward was labelled as being "schizophrenic" as a general term of abuse and I thought, hold on a minute arent these the people who are meant to be looking after us? The nurses were belligerent, anxiety provoking and ready to fight with you in order to make it seem that you were violent so that they could use even more drugs to knock you out at night.

All the ward was fast asleep at 3am including the nurses of which there were only three at a time and all of them took their break between 3 and 3.15 am

Why didn't I sleep well?, they'd taken me off my regular pills because they were being stupid and I was not going to take drugs which I knew were bad for me and for my physical health I could have died and no one would have bothered. So after telling my elderly parents that if you dont get me out of here Im just going to escape one night ,having shown them that I had broken the window restraints( not a difficult job) and shown them the sheet rope they got me out of there.

Others were not so lucky, we had one guy who'd been there more than 18 months who had reacted badly to his daughter being murdered and who had lashed out and had been treated for over 18 months with really no real improvement but kept taking the pills because that way he would get a flat provided for him and the psychiatrist would let him out.

So sad and so unnecessary. Another person had leave to go back to his flat and get some clothes and over the three weeks he tried and tried and did the nurses bother Did they hell, they treated him like a child and bullied him

Jonathan Cainer thinks that she will be the President and therefore Bill will be the First Husband.

London's Burning

Camden market went up in flames last night. Pity it wasn't my old employers buildings which arent that far away.

Best of all Camden is now a no go area... Its going to cause havoc.

My father called me to see the pictures on the TV last night.

I was not really that upset even though Ive been to the market a couple of times

Perhaps it was the fire pig saying goodbye spectacularly to his year.

Suicide rating for drugs

Who came up with this shit? Link here

It is the responsibility of every doctor who prescribes these drugs to make sure that their patients aren't getting depressed and for them to have regular check ups. Anything less is not good practice. Anyone with acne has low self esteem anyway or they wouldnt come and ask for Roaccutane. Acne scars people and it is disfiguring.

The profession has known about Roaccutane and its side effects for over a decade or more.

Why is no one looking after people properly? or is it the case that this is another little spin cycle to make sure that the populace at large dont realise that the NHS is quite frankly down the tubes.

New rules for non EU doctors

Can no longer get a training post. Well the government is now deliberately trying to shoot itself in the foot.

No one is going to come here to fill the gaps in the jobs that the white british boys dont want to do,as it is half of them are leaving for Australia or management consultant posts.

The government is squeezing the health of our nation for its own selfish and controlling ideas. If the BMA had any teeth it would have been on the news denouncing this but Ive heard absolutely nothing.

Beeching rail cut reversed 46 years later

The train to Ebbw vale left from Cardiff this morning for the first time in 46 years

So that means the last one was in 1962

Beeching was an MP much like today's MPs with his snout in a trough, he was associated with the road building industry who were desperate to build roads for the government to get the juicy contracts.

The public transport system that Beeching destroyed has led to a wholly crap dependence on the car but of course they didnt bother about global warming back then.

The GMC

Ive got to quote this...>
The court transcript from the case of PAL vs GMC, May 2004 before Judge Charles Harris is of interest

JUDGE HARRIS: For myself I don't really see why somebody complaining about the behaviour of doctors or the GMC, if that is what they are doing, why that should raise a question about their mental stability, unless anybody who wishes to criticise "the party" is automatically showing themselves to be mentally unstable because they don't agree with the point of view put forward on behalf of the GMC or the party.

MISS COLLIER: That in itself certainly would not be enough.

JUDGE HARRIS: It is like a totalitarian regime: anybody who criticises it is said to be prima facie mentally ill - what used to happen in Russia.

MISS COLLIER: My Lord, that is very far from the circumstances of this case.

JUDGE HARRIS: Of course it is ...
