Schoolgirl, 14, dies and three classmates taken ill after being given new cervical cancer vaccine

A 14-year-old schoolgirl has died shortly after being given a cervical cancer vaccine.

The teenager was one of four classmates at a school in Coventry to have apparently suffered side-effects after receiving a jab as part of a national immunisation programme.

All vaccines are not safe. This illustrates how dangerous they can be.

About Cervarix

More than 1 in 10 doses may cause pain, redness and swelling at the injection site, headache, aching muscles and muscle weakness, and tiredness.
More than 1 in 100 doses may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, itching, red skin rash, hives, joint pain and high fever.
More than 1 in 1000 doses may cause upper respiratory tract infection, dizziness, a hard lump at the injection site, tingling or numbness.
If the side-effects get serious or you have an affect not mentioned in this leaflet, tell your doctor.
According to a GlaxoSmithKline UK electronic medicines compendium document dated 24 September 2007, subjects in the trial of this product were only monitored for side-effects for 30 days and any occuring after this time were not included in the study.
This vaccine has not been studied to see if it is safe to have during or immediately before pregnancy. It is not known whether the vaccine is excreted in human milk and there have been no studies on its interaction with other drugs (they don't know whether it is safe to have alongside other medicines).

Cervarix is for use against two types of Human Papillomavirus, thought to cause 70% of sexually transmitted cervical cancers. It will NOT protect you against all types of HPV. Duration of 'protection' after vaccination is unknown, but thought to be 5.5 years. So if a 12 year old is vaccinated, it may have worn off by the time she's 17. The need for booster doses has not been studied.

Ingredients:
Two types of HPV Virus (16 and 18)
AS04 (aluminium salts and monophosphoryl liquid to make you produce antibodies)
Sodium Chloride
sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate
Virus like particles from the Trichoplusia ni insect (the cabbage looper)
Water

People who should not have Cervarix vaccine:
Those who are allergic to the ingredients of the vaccine (allergic reactions include those listed in the side-effects and swelling of the face, difficulty breathing etc.)
Those with a severe infection or high temperature
Special care should be taken if you have a bleeding disorder or any kind of immunosuppression such as HIV or cancer.
If you are taking other medications, the safety of this vaccine has not been evaluated.
If you are sexually active, the safety of this vaccine is not known in unborn babies. If a girl or young woman gets pregnant during a course of injections, these should be stopped.

Dr. Diane Harper Says Cervarix Is An Experiment As Scottish Ministers Refuse To Allow The Vaccine

Mass vaccination with Cervarix vaccine has been delayed in Scotland.

Dr. Diane Harper, director of the Gynaecological Cancer Research Group at Dartmouth Medical Center in the US, who in fact was paid by GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer's of the shot, to conduct safety trials, says there's no proof the vaccine is safe and that safety trials of the Cervarix vaccine should have been conducted for at least four more years before the decision was taken to give the jabs to thousands of girls in schools.

Harper believes the safety tests for side effects should have been conducted for at least a decade and doses given to millions of individuals around the world before any mass vaccination began. She described the cervical cancer vaccination scheme in Scotland as an "experiment".

"We can't tell you it's 100% safe because we don't know that. I think we would have been better waiting.'

VAN UK's Comment: In an electronic medicines compendium document that we read, dated 24 September 2007, it stated that safety monitoring for Cervarix was only conducted for 30 days, not months or years. This document has now been updated to 2nd September 2008 and now says that girls were followed for side-effects for the duration of the study, but several thousand of these individuals were not followed for more than 30 days:

'In a pre-defined subset of subjects (Cervarix = 8,130 versus control = 5,786), adverse events were followed for 30 days after each injection.'

Killing the Sacred Cow

The title has some significance as I am Hindu but no one would stop a cow from being sold to the knackers yard in India if it was lame and gave everyone a bite if you approached it.

One of the greatest problems that a Libertarian has is trying to convey the message that Libertarians would not close all of the hospitals in the country, and the dead, dying and ill would be lying in hedgerows and/or the work house.

Anybody who has been near an NHS hospital in recent years will know that the NHS is not 'the envy of the world'. This myth has grown up over the last sixty years that has been reinforced by this Government, to the point that the NHS is beyond reform. Its hospitals are dirty, prone to MRSA, overstaffed with accountants and administrators. Its the UK encapsulated.

Don't take my word for it visit any French,German or Italian hospital to see the difference.

Yesterday a nurse was facing disciplinary action for calling out details of patients bowel movements across the wards, and failing to attend to the most basic of hygiene standards of washing hands after handling rubbish, before dealing with patients.

Today a body of a missing patient was found after three days in a locked toilet. This begs two questions, three days for a patient to be missing ?? three days and a cleaner had not checked or cleaned the toilet in the hospital ??.

Whilst whistleblowers are stripped of their livelihoods for highlighting the foul conditions that patients are forced to endure, these practices will continue.

The sacred cow is bloated, riddled with disease and should have been sent to the knackers yard years ago. None of the main three parties dare touch the NHS because of its ill deserved iconic status.

The National Insurance scheme that we pay into should revert back to what it was intended to be an insurance scheme. Not another route into the general taxation pot, so that the Government of the day, scared of raising direct income tax, increases NI instead, as it is the line of least resistance as far as the public is concerned because nobody complains as they are deluded into thinking it is all going into hospitals and pensions.

Each hospital should be self administered, and should only receive patients if it can maintain the most stringent of standards, otherwise it should close on Health and Safety grounds alone. Whitehall is about the last place that should be trusted with collecting in Health Insurance.

Cross posted from Guthrum on the Libertarian Party Blog

I am also going to include a comment from Tristan which bears thinking about seriously

The funny thing is, libertarians usually want to get rid of the NHS in order to provide better care for the poor and to prevent the collapse of the NHS which will be disastrous for the poor.

Unfortunately conservatism reigns supreme and people have no imagination and since WWI governments have systematically destroyed the non-state support networks which would otherwise flourish (and strengthen community).

The whole state sector, in effect if not in intent, is a system to enforce serfdom.

Edit: Mail Story on the Watford General Death in the Toilet It was out of order, and it hadnt been locked to prevent people entering it. A) why had it not been fixed? B) why was it still accessible?

Jade Goody dies on Mothers Day

Jade died this morning at home at 3.14am on Mother's Day.

Some will miss her, her sons, Jack and her mother, but there will be some that will not.

She was a brief, brash sometimes rude and downright irritating ray of light in a world full of darkness. She will be forever associated with East Angular.

Tasers for the Metropolitan Police Force

From Monday 10th December 2007. Announced like all bad news these days at 1 or 2 am in the morning to bury bad news.

This is another fence post as Roger Thornhill would say

We are rapidly becoming a police state worse than Australia, and New Zealand.

What next? Axes in bundles of wood carried by guards when public figures are out on display? (by the way thats a historical reference)

In Roman times when the patricians (thats the rich people) went out on procession there would be guards with bundles of wood with axes in them to mow down the opposition, or to deliver a swift beheading if there was opposition.

These bundles were called fasces, and this is where we get the term fascist from

I never thought I would see another fascist state in my lifetime but I know from having been arrested (yes I have been there too) that had there been tasers when I got arrested that I would now be dead because of the medication I take.

This is wrong, morally, another nail in the coffin for civil liberties and a total out and out assault on our way of life to keep us in fear so we can be controlled more easily by the government.

You all need to write to your MP and get them to pass a bill making Tasers illegal in Britain. After all your sons or your daughters or any other relative could be the next one to die.

Is that what you want? You have a choice I suggest you use the vote that we have and get better representatives the next time a general election comes round because if your current MP does not campaign for the tasers to be removed they are tacitly approving them.

Do people have to die before these things are removed?

I have been politically active today

I have been growing vegetables from seed and transplanted them into pots today

Why is this being politically active you say? 80% of our food is now controlled by the supermarkets and their lorries dependent on computer generated barcode readings at the checkout and the price of diesel to move food from their depots to the stores.

True the vegetables I am growing are much cheaper if grown by the supermarket but the taste of them I can control and I can get them from pot to mouth in ten seconds.

Haplessly though I have sown them very late but it means that the peas and the beans and all the other veg will be in season the moment the temperatures rise and the days grow long again.

There are other things in the news, Diana's ten year death anniversary, the legal challenge of the 7/7 survivors and relatives for a government inquiry into the bombings.

Both today and tomorrow there are funerals for friends' mothers.

Death of a Colleague

As I surfed last night I came across the doctor missing from Edinburgh and at first didnt register the name, thought yeah another one bites the dust and then I see the same thing on our doctors' website and then review the webpage . I make the connection from seeing the photo again and reading more deeply. He's been missing for a week in the lovely balmy temperatures and they found a body an hour and half walk from his car and have called the search off. He leaves three children and a distraught wife and grieving brothers.
It shouldn't have to happen, I'm saddened that someone I went to medical school with and who is the same age as I am is dead. Yet his NHS trust is refuting the idea that he worked 84 hours a week and not taking any responsibility at all.

All doctors who work 7 nights on shift work 84 hours for that week. Yet the public as seen from the Have your say page on the BBC news website feel we get paid wonderfully and cant understand the current jobs crisis.

Many of us have exit strategies in place, for some it is retirement others it is fleeing this awful place that Britain has become in the last ten years.

My thoughts today rest with his family, friends many of whom I know and his grateful patients and many many work colleagues.
